Nature Hide and Seek Oceans
Published in Hardcover by (November, 1989)
Author: John Norris Wood
Average review score:

The whole family loves this book.
We have the Oceans and Jungles books in this series and I want them all. My 2 year old son adores them. He finds new animals all the time and likes to hear all about them. I think the books are great because they combine the fun of a flap book with the mystery of a puzzle. They are beautiful to look at and lots of fun. I wish they'd come back in print, though I imagine they are expensive to manufacture. We think they're worth it!

The new Coast Guard license : six pac to ocean operator (operator of uninspected passenger vessels) to (master-near coastal waters) : six passengers to 200 tons : sail and power
Published in Unknown Binding by Charters West ()
Author: Budd Gonder
Average review score:

A standard text for US Coast Guard License Preparation
Gondor's book has for many years been the standard textbook for those recreational sailors studying for their US Coast Guard, OUPV (six pack) license or 50 to 100 ton Master License.

To put this book in perspective, these license tests are difficult. Five or six tests are required, one of which requires a 90% or above, and the rest require a grade of 75% or better. Many people have difficulty passing these tests--even experienced sailors often have to retake the first test.

Gondor explains the process well and gives you a foundation for passing these tests. Do not think that simply reading his book will give you everything you need to know to pass. You will want to make up flash cards and drill yourself on the meaning of lights, day shapes, and sound signals. You will also want to visit a test site and get familiar with the location of the referenced volumes available for use during the test.

I consider this book to be an essential foundation for preparation for the Coast Guard License listed above strong recommend this book for anyone interested in pursuing a USCG OUPV or above license.

Night Ocean

Authors: H. P. Lovecraft and Jason C. Eckhardt
Average review score:

Let the darkness be your guide!
I am a huge fan of Lovecraft who himself was a fan of the true genuis; Poe. However Lovecraft has far exceeded the master in both sheer horror and prose, his stories are both terrifying and thought provoking. Anyone who is unaware of the work of H.P. Lovecraft is missing out on one of life's greatest joy's. Oh by the way, you must buy this book, Night Ocean only has 5 stories, but they are 5 of his his best. This book is a great way to discover the master of terror. Peace.

Exciting and touching
When this book was given to me, I planned to use it for sleepless nights. Well, it gave me a sleepless night! I just couldn't put it down. All I can say is: buy it and read it.

Ocean birds
Published in Unknown Binding by Knopf ()
Author: Lars Löfgren
Average review score:

The Best on the Subject
I believe this is the best book on the subject of ocean (pelagic) birds I have read. It is perfect for someone with a general science background (but not a biologist) who is interested in more than a field guide. It is very thorough in its discusion of how these birds evolved and survive while living at sea. I am disappointed that it is out of print.

The Ocean Book: Aquarium and Seaside Activities and Ideas for All Ages
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (03 May, 1989)
Author: Center for Marine Conservation (CMC)
Average review score:

GREAT book for ocean studies!
I'm a homeschooling mom, and I'm always looking for activities for our various units. I stumbled upon this book while looking for other ocean books at the library. It really is great "for all ages." While some of the quiz material is a little difficult for the younger set, the experiments, maps and various word finds and crosswords could be done by children as young as five. It covers everything from the water cycle to ocean ecology to sea animals. The experiments and card and board games work very well with visual learners. A VERY comprehensive study of the ocean! Two thumbs up!

Ocean Cards (Games for Your Brain)
Published in Misc. Supplies by Chronicle Books (June, 1999)
Author: Tina L. Seelig
Average review score:

Fun at the beach or in the car
I gave a copy of this to my sister who said it saved the day on a long car-ride with a five-year-old. The variety of games you can play with the cards makes it work for different ages and different attention spans -- and the cards are fun to look at and read even if no one feels like playing a game.

Ocean Circulation
Published in Paperback by Butterworth-Heinemann (September, 1989)
Authors: Open U Course Team Staff and Open University Course Team
Average review score:

An excellent and comprehensive introduction
This book provides a very accessible introduction to a topic that is often confusing to newcomers. It introduces the concepts and equations of oceanography in a step-by-step manner, with self-quizzes and problems to assist the reader in grasping the concepts. The book is good for people exploring an education in oceanography, or for people who are not oceanographers but need to understand the concepts for their own research. The book takes you from being a novice to understanding the different issues, terminology, and methods of data presentation typical of the field. A grasp of the material puts you in a position to dive into the oceanographic literature and pull out the information relevant to your own field of study.

Ocean Circulation and Climate: Observing and Modeling the Global Ocean
Published in Hardcover by Academic Press (10 April, 2001)
Authors: Gerold Siedler, John Gould, and John Church
Average review score:

the most complete book on climate and ocean circulation
Being the manager of an EAS office in France (bureau d'étude d'impact sur l'environnement), the book represent a great help for my work. Despite the price, all the datas are useful. From deep water to ocean surface circulation, from sattelite global observation to shipboard observation, you will miss no data, no equations and no methodology (that's the bestpart for my office). For people who want to work in this field of research, this book is a masterpiece. Not only for the professionnal qualities of the authors but for the synthesis of the WOCE. This book is within the reach of any person with a background in sciences. I highly recommended this book to university students in oceanology. And the structure of the contents is clear and readable. Learn the future of our planet and the CO2 poison progression.
